The Release Of The Kimber Carbon Phono Tonearm
Happy New Year! We kick things off with the 2023 release of the Kimber Kable Carbon Phono tonearm. We left 2022 off with some amazing headphones from Audio-Technica & now we kick the year off with some exciting news from Kimber Kable. Here’s everything we know about Kimber’s Carbon Phono tonearm.
The Kimber Kable Carbon Phono Tonearm
Following the brand’s signature construction, Kimber built the Phono Tonearm with eight VariStrand 19.5AWG conductors braided together using Kimber’s counter-opposed weave.
According to Kimber, an electrostatically dissipative carbon polymer covers each copper conductor within the VariStrand that fills the gaps between each strand and the outer Teflon dielectric.
This design choice reduces mechanically-induced electrical noise in the cable while also improving the uniformity of the voltage gradient within the insulating dielectric.
Furthermore, a carbon-doped nylon sleeve wraps the cable and it’s also in constant contact with a hand-wrapped tin-plated 23AWG copper shield wire around the 8-wire braided core. This hand-wrapped layer extends through to the leads as well for complete shielding coverage.
Not only that but, Kimber bounds a ground wire to the shield and the carbon sleeve to ensure an effective and robust connection. Finally, an outer PET Techflex sleeve provides physical protection for the cable.
The Price Of The Kimber Kable Carbon Phono Tonearm
The Kimber Carbon PHONO cable is available in: 0.5m, 0.75m, 1.0m, 1.5m, and 2.0m lengths with 1.0m lengths priced at £976 for the Carbon Phono-CU with WBT 0114Cu phono plugs and straight DIN or £1,060 for the Carbon Phono-CU with WBT 0114Cu phono plugs both ends.
