Focal’s Bathys Wireless Headphones
With a lot of anticipation Focal finally released their upcoming wireless headphones, the Bathys. We’re looking at active noise cancellation, wired USB-DAC mode, and Focal’s signature M-shaped dome drivers.
It’s Focal’s first wireless ANC headphones with pure Hi-Fi sound.
What To Expect
The Bathys feature an aluminum construction paired with a magnesium yoke for a mixture of strength and lightness. This is trimmed with a leather and microfibre headband and replaceable earpads that promise insulation and comfort for any head shape. A rather neat touch is that the logo on the earcup is backlit.
Those earcups house French-made 40mm aluminum & magnesium M-shaped dome speaker drivers, boasting a claimed 15Hz to 22kHz frequency response.
Clear Voice Capture technology allows for voice calling duties with crystal clear telephone conversations. Did we mention that Bathys comes with eight microphones to conduct noise canceling?
Focal offers two noise-canceling modes: Silent Mode optimized for journeys with high background noise (planes, trains, etc.) and Soft Mode to help with focus at home, in the office, etc. Furthermore, there’s a Transparency Mode, allowing you to hear sounds around you when needed.
You can also adjust the sound to your tastes via an app-based EQ.
Battery life is another important factor for wireless headphones. So what do you get? You have 30 hours of playback from one full charge and a fifteen-minute top-up equates to five hours of life.
The Bathys also include a 24bit USB DAC. This means no more USB DAC dongles are needed if you want better sound from your laptop, phone, etc.
Focal also offers all the expected codecs in the Bathys: SBC, AAC, Apt-X, and Apt-X Adaptive. Meanwhile, easily accessible control buttons and Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants are provided for effortless use.
Lastly, Bathys offers connectivity options via Bluetooth, Jack, and USB and comes bundled with a 1.2m 3.5mm Jack and a 1.2m USB-C cable along with a hardshell carrying case.
